October has finally arrived, and we would like to celebrate some birthdays with you all! Some great literary characters are celebrating another year of life, so check out some of the stories they star in and appreciate what they bring to the tales!
Professor Minerva McGonagall - October 4th
Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone by J.K. Rowling
After 10 miserable years with his aunt and uncle, Harry Potter, a young boy with a great destiny, is rescued from their outrageous neglect and is invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Each book follows another year in Harry's education while more of his frightening destiny is revealed. Professor McGonagall in all of her glory and maternal qualities is introduced in the first installment of Rowling's Harry Potter series.
Winnie the Pooh - October 14th

The adventures of Christopher Robin and his friends, in which Pooh Bear uses a balloon to get honey, Piglet meets a Heffalump, and Eeyore has a birthday. Winnie the Pooh is a wonderful, sweet bear who loves and cares for his friends, but often gets into sticky situations.

The contest is open to anyone who has a library card with the Pioneer Library System.
To be eligible for a card, you must live, work, attend school, or own property in Cleveland, McClain, or Pottawatomie County in Oklahoma. You are also eligible for a card with the Pioneer Library System if you qualify for a card with the Metropolitan Library System.
To apply for a library card, visit a library of the Pioneer Library System or fill out the online application to apply for a library card.
The contest will be conducted under the auspices of the Pioneer Library System Foundation.
The contest is divided into three categories (age categories are based on age at time of submission):
Student ages 8-18;
Adult ages 19 and older;
Employees of the Pioneer Library System
Works produced through participation in a library-sponsored The Big Read workshop or class are eligible for submission in the contest.
Professional artists and illustrators are encouraged to enter the contest.
Digital images of the contest entries become the property of the Pioneer Library System and may be used in promotion and advertising of The Big Read: A Wizard of Earthsea and related activities. Artists maintain ownership and rights to the original artwork. Artists selected for inclusion in The Big Read Art Show agree to loan the original pieces for display.
