Teens Chill-laxin' in April @ the Library

group of teensFor teens the place to be in April is at Moore Public Library, 225 South Howard in Moore, where cooking tasty Southwest food, photography techniques, salsa dancing, decorating pillows, and video games are on the agenda. Registration is required for many of the events. Come by the library, or call 793-5100 to register.

On Thursday April 3 at 6:30 p.m., teens are invited to join the experts from the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service for a hands-on cooking class. As part of the focus of the Big Read and celebration of Hispanic culture, teens will learn about the foods of the Southwest, and the spices that give them that special kick. All supplies are provided and registration is required, as space is limited.

The Photo Club is meeting on Monday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. with special guest speaker, Marty Martin. The program will center on photographic techniques, lighting, and special lighting effects. The club is for high school teens only and the meeting will last approximately one hour.

Noche Solo Para Damitas, (Girl’s Nite Out) is also part of the Big Read and Little Read programs and is scheduled for Thursday April 10 at 6:30-8:00 p.m. Girls of all ages are invited to celebrate by bringing you moms, grandmas, aunts, cousins and girlfriends to enjoy salsa dancing, pampering, and southwest refreshments, and just have fun being girls.

Dream interpretation is a theme of Bless Me, Ultima, the book chosen for the Big Read. Everyone needs something to Dream On! On Thursday April 17 at 6:30 p.m. the Dream On craft event will allow teens to decorate a pillowcase using markers, paint, duct tape, and miscellaneous embellishments. All supplies are provided and registration is required for this event, as space is limited.

Exciting and active electronic games are the main feature on Saturday April 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This latest trend in video participation includes guitar-playing simulation with Guitar Hero II, sports activities under Wii Sports that have motion sensing capabilities, dance steps synchronized to music, and several others. This event is held in meeting room A in the library.
