We are offering a special storytime for children elementary age and younger during Spring Break, Tuesday, March 18, at 10 a.m.
Glenda Pitts, children’s librarian will present a program of children’s folktales featuring the Little Read book The First Tortilla by Rudolfo Anaya. A craft time is also part of the event. No registration is required to attend this official Big Read event.
The First Tortilla retells a Mexican legend about how a small girl receives corn kernels and uses them to create masa dough that is baked into the first tortilla to save her struggling village.
The Little Read is a component of the library system’s Big Read, a literary project which is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. Big Read events focus on Anaya’s novel, Bless Me, Ultima.
Adults attending or bringing their children to a Little Read event may register themselves for the Bless Me, Ultima Ultimate, Altima Give Away drawing for a 2005 Nissan Altima offered by Bob Moore Nissan of Norman as an incentive to participate in The Big Read. No purchase is necessary to enter the May 5 drawing. Entrants must be 18 or older and not an employee of Bob Moore Auto Group or Pioneer Library System. Entries are also available at the dealership, I-35 and Tecumseh Road in Norman.
