The Norman Library book discussion group will meet at the library, Wednesday, April 9 at 4 p.m. The group will discuss Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. The books are available at the library.
Bless Me, Ultima is the focus of the Big Read this year through Pioneer Library System. The Big Read is a project of the library system and an initiative of the National endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
The focus of the novel is the coming-of-age story of Antonio Marez, a young boy living on the Llano, plains, of Eastern New Mexico. His mentor is Ultima, a natural healer and midwife who for many years has tended to the health needs of her community.
Anyone attending this book discussion or any one of the more than 83 plus Big Read events taking place in the three counties (McClain, Cleveland, and Pottawatomie) served by Pioneer Library System may enter their name into a drawing for a Nissan Altima being given by Bob Moore Nissan of Norman. The drawing for the car and the culmination of Big Read events will be May 5 at the Bob Moore Nissan dealership in Norman.
Call the library at 701-2600 for more information about the book discussion or any Big Read event.
