Tutor Roundtable
Topic: Learning Disabilities Date: Wednesday, March 28, 2012 Start Time: 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. Location: Norman Public Library Room A/B
Join us this month as we discuss Learning Disabilities and the benefits of reading aloud with your student. It has been proven that listening to stories enhances vocabularies, helps the listener build background knowledge, increases comprehension, and fosters critical thinking skills and a desire to read. Learn about this and other tutoring tips and techniques at this month’s Roundtable.
Citizenship Class
Date: Mondays Time: 6 p.m - 7 p.m. Location: Purcell Public Library
Immigrants who would like to become U.S. citizens can learn information that is on the citizenship test.
ESL Classes
English as a Second Language Class Date: Mondays Time: 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. Location: Purcell Public Library
All students are invited to attend this class and improve their English speaking and writing skills.
English Conversation Class Date: Saturdays, March 3, 10, 17, 24 Time: 9-10:30 a.m. Location: Shawnee Public Library Conference Room
English as a Second Language Conversation classes. We read books and newspapers and discuss current events to practice reading and speaking in English. We also review new vocabulary and enjoy learning something about all of the cultures represented in the class. The students appreciate having English speakers to practice their conversation skills on, so all tutors are invited to join us.
GED Class
Date: Tuesdays & Thursdays Time: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Location: Purcell Public Library
Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings from 7-8 the Purcell Library will host General Equivalency Diploma (GED) classes for those who would like to prepare for the test.

Tutor Cafe

Tutor Cafe is meeting on a new date and at a new time! Join us for coffee, cookies, and an opportunity to meet other tutors and exchange ideas. We will also be reviewing new resources such as the reading pen, e-readers, and computer books.
Book Clubs

Be sure to pick up a copy ahead of time for you and your student to read. To reserve your copy call or email the Literacy Office at 701-2682 or janed@pls.lib.ok.us. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with other tutors and for your student to practice conversational skills. Mark the second Tuesday of every month on your calendars as book and conversation club night.
