Tip of the Month: Conversation Helpers
For students who want to improve their conversation it is good to know in advance what you want to talk about. Here are some well tested suggestions:
-
Ask your student to tell you a proverb from his country.
-
Discuss the meaning of a favorite quotation.
-
Bring an interesting newspaper or magazine article to spark discussion.
-
Share memories of favorite holidays.
-
Discuss hobbies and summer vacations.
The possibilities are endless. Relax and have fun. Remember, the greatest motivators remain your encouragement, enthusiasm and example. (Compelling Conversations, 2008)
