Learn about lightning at Blanchard teen program

Severe weather has been all too real for the Blanchard area recently. And the Blanchard Public Library seeks to educate the community on the weather, offering an upcoming program for teens about all aspects of lightning.

The program is titled "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Lightning, but Might Have Been Afraid to Ask" and takes place at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the library, 205 NE 10th St. The program is part of the library's Teen Summer Reading Challenge.

Professor William Beasley from the University of Oklahoma will lead the program.

He will explain how lightning occurs and how we know what we know about lightning, illustrate some of its effects, and provide an overview of lightning safety and protection guidelines.

Space is limited so registration is required, either at the library or by calling 485-2275.
