Newcastle Public Library
The Newcastle Public Library’s popular therapy dog reading program continues throughout August and September, but dates have been changed slightly from what previously was taking place.
During August, four dogs – Riley, Sadie, Bubba and Maggie – will share duties at different times listening to children read. Dates and times are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Aug. 19 and 26.
Then in September, Sadie, Riley and Maggie will continue listening to readers in time slots from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Tuesday of the month, on Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
Parents or caregivers are asked to sign up for a time slot for their child to read to one of the dogs. The goal is to give hesitant readers a non-threatening atmosphere in which to read. Children ages 4 to 13 can take part in the program.
For more information, or to sign up for a time to read, visit the library or call 387-5076.
