Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were a robbery team in the early twentieth century who became infamous and notorious in the United States through their over-the-top run ins with the police and exploits in the country's newspapers.
Bonnie and Clyde, as they are commonly referred to as, were a team for roughly two years and committed crimes in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Missouri before being caught in Gibsland, Louisiana, on May 23, 1934. They were ambushed on a Louisana highway by Texas and Louisiana police officers and later shot and killed.
Many bank robbers like Bonnie and Clyde also became legends because of the harsh conditions of the Great Depression during which they committed their crimes. The duo became so popular that they sparked inspiration for movies and songs about their careers.

Limerick Day is May 12th! This holiday is observed on the birthday of one of its champions, Edward Lear. The limerick, which dates from the early 18th century, has been described as the "only fixed verse form indigenous to the English language." It gained its greatest popularity following the publication of Edward Lear's Book of Nonsense (and its sequels), which contained many limericks like the one below.
If you are interested in exploring the art and history of the limerick, check out the following titles from your hometown library.
