Chess Tourneys for Children

Image of a chess pieceThe Norman Public Library will host tournaments for area chess champs in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Play will be held in the Lowry Room at the library, 225 N. Webster in downtown Norman. Trophies for individuals and for schools will be awarded at the end of the round-robin tournaments.

The competition will be Saturday, January 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parents are reminded that they must accompany their children age 10 and younger.

Participants may register at the Children’s Desk in the library or by calling 701-2630.

The chess tournament is made possible with assistance from the Friends of the Norman Public Library and directed by the Oklahoma Scholastic Chess Organization. The Friends of the Norman Library will provide the trophies. Players and observers are encouraged to bring a sack lunch and a drink for the lunch hour or to make plans to leave the library for lunch.
