Music lovers! There's a great program coming up at the Norman Public Library this Friday night, June 14 as part of the Norman Arts Council's "Art Walk Culture Talk" series in conjunction with the NAC's 2nd Friday Circuit of Art.
University of Oklahoma professor Jay Wilkinson will offer a presentation entitled "Jazz is American, Jazz is Art" at 6pm, followed by an hour-long concert featuring Wilkinson on trumpet, Dennis Borycki on keys, Michael Boyle on bass and Mark Giammario on drums.
Wilkinson's experience as a teacher and performer is varied and impressive. He has been featured as a soloist at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association convention and was a featured vocalist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. He has sung with Oklahoma's own Ambassador's Choir and has performed around the country as a soloist and as a member of the Oklahoma Brass Quintet. He has participated at various local jazz festivals as a judge and clinician and also judged at the National Trumpet Competition in the jazz and middle school divisions in trumpet performance.
The event is sponsored by the Norman Arts Council and the Friends of the Norman Public Library.
