DogThe Shawnee Public Library commemorates National Dog Day with a program at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, in Community Room B of the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.

The group Canine Conditions for Independence will present the program, discussing their nonprofit organization that provides highly-trained assistance dogs to people with disabilities.

National Dog Day actually is celebrated yearly on Aug. 26. It was founded in 2004 by the Animal Miracle Foundation as an effort to honor all dogs for their roles in their owners’ lives.

Registration is not required to attend the program.
