DEADLINE by Sandra Brown
This is Brown's latest novel. When a well-respected journalist returns from Afghanistan, he is sucked into covering a murder trial by his godfather. Dawson Scott is ready to go home and forget the whole mess when Amelia walks into the courtroom and Dawson is hooked. This is a twister of a mystery story. If you like Iris Johanson, give Sandra Brown a try.
TOP OF THE MORNING: INSIDE THE CUTTHROAT WORLD OF MORNING TV by Brian Stelter
When I chose this book, I thought it would appeal to both male and female readers. However, the more I read, the more I discovered that it would appeal to the same audience as morning television: 70% female viewers. This is the story of the race between the TODAY show and GOOD MORNING AMERICA. It takes a backstage look at the heartless and heartfelt business of what we see on our TV screens each morning. Just remember, it is a busines.
THE ABSOLUTE VALUE OF MIKE by Kathryn Erskine
Mike’s father is a genius of mathematics; however, Mike isn’t. No matter how much he tries, Mike just doesn’t “get” math. This leaves him feeling inadequate and a disappointment to his father. When his dad goes to Romania for six weeks one summer, Mike is sent to stay with an aunt and uncle he has never met. It’s a hilarious and poignant ride; one with an insightful epiphany for this 14-year-old. A 2014 Sequoyah Intermediate entry, this is a great choice for boys and girls of middle school age.
