Libraries bring ancient Greece to life in programs

Take a trip back in time with a chance for “Digging the Ancient Greeks!” at a pair of upcoming programs at the Shawnee and Tecumseh Public Libraries.

In Shawnee, the program will take place twice. Tweens ages 9-11 are invited to the library at 2 p.m. Friday, July 19. Teens ages 12-17 will take part in the same program at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 24.

The program also takes place at the Tecumseh Public Library at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23.

Donna Merkt of the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art will lead each program, showing off ancient artifacts from ancient Greece and also information about the time period and the way carbon dating is used in studying past times.

Participants also will get a chance to create an artistic constellarium inspired by ancient Greek pottery.

Registration is requested to attend either of the programs.

The Friends of the Tecumseh Public Library are sponsoring the program there. For more information, call 598-5955.
