Volunteering is Worth Your Time

The Pioneer Library System provides free Literacy Services for adults needing to learn English as a second language (ESL) & for those wanting to improve their reading skills. The demand for these services continuously grows & we enlist volunteer tutors to help us deliver our literacy services.

Currently there are approximately 40 students waiting for ESL tutors to help them learn conversational English. So what do you need to know to become a tutor?

1) No foreign language experience required;
2) Must be over 18 years old;
3) Estimated time commitment is approx. 1 hour per week for 6 months;
4) Tutor & student set their meeting schedule;
5) Next Training Date is August 21.

To find out more or to register to become a tutor please call 701-2682.

Free Adult Computer Classes

Did you know that the Pioneer Library System offers free computer classes? The classes cover the entire machine, from the mouse all the way to the Microsoft Office suite & beyond!

Our most popular classes are Word & Excel. We welcome beginners who have never touched a mouse in their life as well as more advanced users. Branches even have classes on things like eBay, photo editing, & social networking.

August 19, McLoud Public Library is hosting a resume building & job searching class. Tecumseh Public Library is having a class featuring our fantastic homework help database, BrainFuse on August 26th. Shawnee Public Library is having a class on Digital Photo Editing August 30. The Norman & Moore Public Libraries offer regularly scheduled classes on the Microsoft Office Suite products as well. That's just a sampling of what we have available this month.
