POSITION:  Department Manager – Children’s Services Department
        
BEGINNING SALARY:  Compensation based on education, qualifications & experience:  
                                        MLIS Preferred: $42,312/yr or
                                        BA/BS REQUIRED: $35,412/yr

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Full time position, 40 hrs/wk. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which will include evenings and weekends, in addition up to two weeks of “Mandatory New Hire Orientation & Training” located at the Administrative Offices in Norman.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans, organizes and manages the activities, staff and services of the Children’s Department; provides outstanding and high-level customer service to all customers; performs other duties as assigned. Works under the direction of the SW Oklahoma City Branch Manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education and/or experience:
a.    MLS or MLIS from an accredited college or university;
b.    Three years relevant library or related experience;        
c.    Three years supervisory experience preferred;
d.    Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience;
e.    Valid OK driver’s license;
2. Knowledge, skills and abilities:
a.    Thorough knowledge of Pioneer Library System policies and procedures;
b.    Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures for public library service and the ability to interpret them to the staff and public;
c.    Knowledge of electronic resources, including the Internet and database information retrieval;
d.    Demonstrated ability in children’s programming;
e.    Skills in working with public, public speaking and conducting effective story times and other library programs;
f.     Strong skills in written and spoken business communications;
g.    Working knowledge in the operation of computers and office machines and standard office software products.
h.    Lift up to 25 lbs.
i.     Retrieve and replace items from floor level to at least 5 1/2 feet in height.
j.     Work a flexible schedule which will include evenings and weekends based on fluctuating branch/department demands.

BEGINNING SALARY:  Grade 2 Base ($8.38/hr)

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Part-time, hourly position. Number of hours per week will vary based on Branch/Department demand.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings, and weekends, in addition up to two weeks of “Mandatory New Hire Orientation & Training” located at the Administrative Offices in Norman.

Sorts and shelves library materials; empties drop boxes and checks in materials; answers directional questions and assists customers in finding materials; assists staff with circulation tasks when needed; maintains an orderly and neat library environment; performs other duties as assigned.

a.    No previous experience required;
b.    Previous library and customer service experience preferred;
c.    High school diploma or GED;
d.    Or may be a current high school student;
e.    Must be 16 years or older.

2.    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
a.    Ability to gain knowledge of Pioneer Library System policies and procedures;
b.    Ability to understand the organization of the library collection;
c.    Ability to learn and integrate library system practices and procedures;
d.    Working knowledge in the operation of computers and office machines, and standard office software products;
e.    Strong skills in written and spoken business communications;
f.     Ability to file and shelve library materials quickly and accurately;
g.    Ability to work pleasantly with the staff and library customers;
h.    Requires physical effort in the handling of moderately light materials up to 25 pounds, standing for long periods of time and frequent stooping and bending;
i.     Retrieve and replace items from floor level to at least 5 1/2 feet in height;
j.     Work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends based on fluctuating branch/department  demands.
