Generally considered the greatest novelist of the Victorian era and was born on this date in 1812. He went on to create epic stories, classic characters and wrote a vivid depiction of Victorian England. He gave us Oliver Twist, The Old Curiosity Shop, David Copperfield, Bleak House, Little Dorrit, A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol and many more. But it was his characters that are some of the most memorable in fiction, some even took on a life of their own and often these characters were based on people that he knew. Dickens created hundreds of characters in his lifetime and came up with some of their most unique names such as: Bounderby, Chuzzlewit, Fezziwig, Grewgious, Honeythunder, Linkinwater, M’Choakumchild, Nubbles, Perrybingle, and Smallweed.
