Happy Birthday Jules Verne! Born on this date in 1828 and often referred to as one of the “Fathers of Science Fiction.”
Of course Verne is best known for Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Around the World in Eighty Days. Verne wrote about travelling through the air, under the sea, and to the Earth’s core before any of these modes of transportation was commercialized.
Some of Jules Verne’s fiction inventions which developed are: Electric powered submarine, newscasts, rockets to the moon, solar powered spacecraft, skywriting, videoconferencing and the Taser, to name a few. Regarded as one of the most translated authors of all time, we have the works of Verne’s in our hometown libraries for you to celebrate. Now, we’re off to play the organ in the deep parts of the stacks!
